And Yet Another Spam Story!

I almost forgot, I have another Spam story to share!

Many years ago, on the Late Show with David Letterman, Letterman would sometimes give away hams as prizes to members of the audience.

Why hams? I have no idea. But it was funny.

Around that same time was our big day—the wedding date for Iwanski and Miss Healthypants. After the ceremony, wedding guests arrived in the reception hall carrying beautifully wrapped presents and cards.

Iwanski’s Mom came in carrying a box with at least a half a dozen cans of Spam and one big canned ham.

“Mom, what are we supposed to do with this?” Iwanski asked incredulously. I just laughed.

“Well, I thought you could hand them out or something,” my mother-in-law replied.

Later, after dinner, the box of Spam and ham was still sitting there.

We had to figure out some way to get rid of them—or else risk having to take home a big box full of Spam (and ham). God forbid!

So finally, we decided on a Spam plan.

Iwanski’s sister and I got on the microphone and started repeating over and over again, “Ham, ham, ham, ham, ham, ham, ham…”

As we did that, Iwanski ran around handing out Spams to friends and family, while the crowd laughed. After he handed out the last Spam, he reached for the big canned ham and held it up to the sky.

A collective gasp of “Ahhh” came up from the crowd.

He then proceeded to run around with it for few minutes, almost giving it to several people before finally handing it to my brother-in-law, Andy.

The crowd laughed and laughed.

I have to thank my fun-loving mother-in-law. Because of her, Spam--and Iwanski--had created a funny memory.

Sounds like it was a fun a wedding!

My sister got married about a year ago. Here wedding would have been much better if she gave away some hams and cans of hams, after all it was her third one but I am not sure that the rabbi would have appreciated that hams. Maybe lambs would be more appropriate.

Great story.....and the post about Walgreen's? They sell everything at least once....specially in San Francisco. Now, Spam can be tasty if that is the only thing your mother offers you for lunch with a huge smear of mayo and it is all smashed between two slices of Wonder bread. Really. And I have wondered why I have high cholesterol. Once when Steve and I were really, really poor compared to now when we are just stock market poverty candidates, i fried spam and eggs for dinner. yummmmy. ummhum

In a chat conversation, I told Mathman that I had to eat the ham I brought with me this morning to work because I was starving. He immediately referred me here.

I love this story! It's the moments like that you carry forever. I bet people who were there tell the wedding ham story to their friends.

Beautiful! I thought we were the only wacky ones! We save a can of potted meat to trade around in someones Christmas stockings each year. No one knows who will get it next. But the Spam - now that's big time.
